Behind The Design: The Ripple Towel

We are firm believers that your bathroom can (and should) feel like a spa. Enter: The Ripple Towel.

The coolest new design to elevate your bathroom. Made from ultra-soft cotton with a soft and calming ripple design. We chatted to Bedfolk's Creative Director and Founder, Jo, and Product Lead, Emma to tell us more about the details behind the design.

Why was The Ripple Towel the next addition to the bathroom collection?

Jo: Our Plush Towel is the kind you’d find in a luxury hotel, super-premium, weighty and comforting. We only ever add products to our collections if they offer something different, and it became clear that having an ultra-fluffy, quick drying towel would be useful as a family-friendly option (though I love to wrap myself in the comfort of our Plush Towel, it felt a bit heavy for my little girl). The Ripple Towel has been designed with this in mind. It offers a faster drying time and a fluffier hand feel, as well as a different aesthetic, which we will be playing into more over time with colour options. We love it, and have more plans for ‘Ripple’ style products in the pipeline, so watch this space!

What did the design process involve?

Emma: We were keen to bring more texture into the bathroom and, as ever, the influence of nature. We designed the ripple to provide depth and shadows to our new towel range as well as evoke the gentle fluidity of a babbling brook; a calmness and stillness we loved the idea of being wrapped up in! We kept the colours very grounded taking influence from our other collections, with the pureness of Snow and the earthy tones of Rust and Fawn.

What are the main differences between The Ripple Towel and the existing Plush Towel, and which one would you recommend for different needs?

Jo: If you want to wrap yourself in absolute luxury, reminiscent of a 5 star hotel, then I’d go Plush. It’s the one I’d use for myself and leave on the end of guest beds every time. If you want a super-fluffy and quick drying option (still with a very premium weight and hand feel) I’d opt for The Ripple Towel. It’s the one I’d choose for day-to-day use in a busy household, and it’s the one I’ll be wrapping my daughter in every night. Both are made by our partners in Turkey, who are world-renowned for their skill in towelling, so with either option you can feel confident in the quality and durability.

What do you love most about The Ripple Towel?

Jo: The Ripple Towel is beautiful to use, but also beautiful to look at! I love the aesthetic for the bathroom, the ripple design brings a fresh simplicity to the space. I’m also loving being a bit more experimental with colour by using the Rust version, which layers up perfectly with Fawn or Snow.
